New year, new hope
A new year brings with it a sense of hope. In 2026, we see hope manifesting in actions to advance prehospital blood transfusion programs. These programs equip ambulances and helicopters with blood products, enabling lifesaving transfusions before patients arrive at a hospital. In this issue of Access Point BCP, you'll find insights on why they matter and how the industry is working to move these initiatives forward. You’ll also get a list of websites where you can see how national organizations advocate for the use of lifesaving blood in the field.
Plus, see how one community blood center is gaining improved platelet reliability after implementing automated blood processing.
As always, you’ll find helpful resources and upcoming events in every issue. If there are specific topics you want to read about in the future, let us know. This newsletter is designed specifically for blood center professionals like you, and we value your input.

Your questions, answered
Dear Access Point BCP,
Our blood center would like an Outdate Calendar for 2026. Does Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies have one for the new year? And if so, how can I get a copy?
— Sally from Nashville, TN

Hi Sally,
For those who aren’t familiar with the Outdate Calendar, it’s a handy guide to help blood centers and processing labs determine the expiration dates of blood components. You can also use it to help determine when donors can next donate whole blood, red blood cells, or platelets. The calendar is free to download at your convenience.
