Every device has its own PM schedule
Preventive maintenance (PM) is designed to prolong equipment life and provide maximum system performance — helping you make the most of your investment. But how often is PM needed? As the graphic shows, that depends on which device is involved.

One thing doesn’t change by device: PM should be performed by a qualified service technician. (Welders should be sent to us for PM.) If you have a current service contract (activated or renewed) for your device, PM will be automatically assigned in our system 60 days prior to the due date. Your service representative will reach out to your designated contact to schedule PM, which will then be completed within 30 days before or after the official due date.
If you prefer to request PM, follow these steps:
  1. Visit our Help Center.
  2. Click Contact Support.
  3. When the form appears, under “What are you having an issue with?” select Other.
  4. Under “What happened?” select Not Applicable.
  5.  In the description field, write “PM for serial number” and the device serial number.
  6. Click Submit.
Your questions, answered

Dear Access Point,

I like to plan ahead, and I know at some point I will need to clean the Seal Safe system on our Spectra Optia system and replace the splash guard. Where can I find instructions for this?
— Nick from Portland, OR
Hello Nick,

You can find instructions for both tasks in Chapter 16 of the Spectra Optia Apheresis System Operator’s Manual.

Important: Before cleaning the Seal SafeTM System or replacing the splash guard, disconnect the system from the Spectra Optia radio frequency (RF) cable. This prevents the chance of an RF burn during the cleaning process.

To get started, remove the soiled splash guard and clean the jaw cavity with alcohol using a dampened cotton swab. To insert a new splash guard, follow the steps below from the operator’s manual.
1. Remove the perforated inset from one side of the
    splash guard.

2. Fold the other inset inward at a 90° angle to form
    a clip.

3. Fold the sides of the splash guard inward at
    the perforations.

4. Align the splash guard with the lever assembly on
    the sealer head.

5. Attach the splash guard and use the clip to lock it
in place. Be sure to reconnect the RF cable.
We hope this helps clarify the process. If you have additional questions, please contact a Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies specialist.
If you have a specific question about the Spectra Optia system, let us know. We will feature a reader question in each Access Point edition. Be sure to tell us your first name, hometown, and state or province. Questions not featured will be answered directly via email.
